  • The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups of the Eurasian Steppe. The wall stretches over 13,000 miles and was built over several centuries by different Chinese dynasties. It's not a single continuous wall, but rather a network of walls and trenches.


  • The construction of the wall began as early as the 7th century BC, during the Warring States period. The most well-known portions were built by the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) to defend against Mongol invasions. The wall played a significant role in controlling trade and movement along the Silk Road, as well as in military defense.


  • Contrary to the common belief, the Great Wall of China cannot be seen from space with the naked eye. Its width varies, but the typical width is around 15 feet, while the height ranges from about 15 to 30 feet. The wall is not a single structure but a collection of walls and fortifications built in different periods.


  • The Great Wall of China is one of the most iconic and recognizable structures in the world, symbolizing China's historical strength and determination. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination.
